It's shame (2010-05-14)
when brilliant design misses the important. Or is just flaky.
I've found fossil watches to be that.
I was actually thinking of buying this watch but who wants a problematic piece of design bling?
Just a shame that something so wonderful to look at - is best kept as a knick-knack.
C'mon Philippe. It's like designing and chair that no one can sit on comfortably.
Watches need to be seen and reliable and not crytic.
Make a beautiful thing but honor it's function for crying out loud.
Flawed but fun timpiece (2009-03-25)
I like interesting watches. I found this one when the Mini Motion watch I had was showing age and asked for it for x-mas. My wife obliged. It's fun to look at and gets lots of looks and questions. Even though it has a funky way of displaying time, it makes sense right away.
But it has its flaws:
1) It has no other functions, which I'm prepared to live with, it essentially an analog watch shown digitally.
2) It has no backlight, this seems ridiculous to me, it's illegible in the dark.... It's a digital watch, when is the last time you saw a digital watch without some indiglo like backlight
3) Band pops open often
4) hefty for lack of features, I assume this allows the two levels of LCD that allow it to do it's magic
5) It is hard to read the numbers when the tick marks are filled in. It's just very dark so it's not something you can quickly glance at.
6)The tick marks can fail. Happened to me in the region of 5. Now five minutes of my watch are missing and when it fills up the face I have a 5 tick gap, which makes the lack of backlight and already lackluster visibility unacceptable.
7)Warranty takes stupidly long to repair.
Over all, thought I like the watch and how it tells time a lot, i think it may have been a mistake. It's fun for conversation, but not great for keeping track of time.
